Some site users have reported extreme "SLOWNESS" during access to network resources (including SQL Server read and write operations).
What we have discovered is that you MAY encounter this problem if you meet ALL of the following conditions:
- Your are on a peer-to-peer or workgroup network where there is no Domain Name Service (provides the service of translating the computer name to an IP address).
- Your workstation is running Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Windows XP seem to be FINE dspite #1 above)
If your computer suddenly experiences this "SLOWNESS" after a hardware upgrade, and you are not planning to get a "true server (with DNS)", then your settings in the configuration file (appconfig.xml) may need to use the IP address of the "RBS Server" instead of the Computer name. (e.g. \\192.1687.1.5\ instead of \\YOURSERVER\).
The values in the "Storage Location" records may also need to be changed to use the IP address instead of the server name (e.g. \\192.168.1.5\RBSServer\docs instead of \\YOURSERVER\RBSServer\docs)
If you are unsure with your network configuration, please either contact your network company\support person or email us for advice (and possibly remote review of your network setup).
Again, this is ONLY IF one of the workstations are extremely slow and have the 2 criteria above.
